	On the 9th June 1866 ,James was charged with the attempted murder of his wife,Ann , the crime taking place on the 3rd June.Apparently both were extremely intoxicated , and an argument ensued , resulting in James inflicting a grievious wound to Ann's neck. The jury eventually found James guilty of unlawful wounding , but not guilty of attempted murder.The jury requested mercy for the guilty man, referring to his previous good character.
