- Ref:Copy of death certificate,NSW Registration 1865/4637,for William Lord -The informant described his occupation as "shepherd".The informant, Stafford H Barnes, was a chemist in Mudgee(The Sydney Morning Herald (NSW : 1842 - 1954) Saturday 8 October 1864 p 5 Article) The minister was the Rev. James Gunther, Church of England Clergyman, in the Turon district (The Sydney Morning Herald (NSW : 1842 - 1954) Friday 15 August 1851 p 2 Article) The doctor , W. King Esq ,MD was also the district coroner.
This record is not verified -there is another death certificate(NSW Registration 1870/005768) -for David Lord- who died in the Gladesville Asylum on 3rd August 1870-aged 45 years - and buried in the hospital graveyard on 5th Aug 1870,grave 375(nothing of the grave remains).
He was found wandering in the bush in the Picton area in a dazed state on the 29th July 1869,by Mounted Constable Charles Rawlinson , and sentenced to incarceration in Darlinghurst Prison for six months - later relocated to the Gladesville asylum as "a lunatic",on 20th August 1869,patient number 796 .His hospital report states he was a stockman from Burragorang.Cause of death was attributed to softening of the brain.He had suffered "fits"(some lasting several months) since a fall from a horse some years earlier, and had developed a habit of wandering in the bush.
