      The two eldest children were born prior to the marriage of John Kirkpatrick Escott and Deborah Phipps,(he is described as "Batchelor"(sic) on the wedding record,Deborah as a spinster)Deborah is recorded as the mother at youngest daughter Mary Jane's Christening, but no mother is recorded on her siblings baptisms.

      In 1805 when son, Robert Kirkpatrick Escott ,married Sarah Crosse, Deborah and her two daughters left Ongar Hill, and settled in Walton on Thames, and there the relationship with the Young family began. Thomas Young married Elizabeth Escott on 15 October 1818.

    • John purchased Ongar Hill from Sir Henry Parker,of Melford Hall,Suffolk, son of Admiral Sir Hyde Parker,the elder,Baronet. The contract states in part"Release by Sir Harry Parker, lately of Hunger Hill in Chertsey, but now of Melford Hall, Suffolk, and Dame Bridget his wife, to John Kirkpatrick Escott of Lime Street Square, London, merchant"

      In the 1781 will of his uncle,Robert Kirkpatrick ,of Malaga,and Woodford,Essex ,he is distinctly nominated as "my nephew John Kirkpatrick Escott" In his death notice in "The gentleman's Magazine, and Historical Chronicle, Volume 69, Part 1"(1799), his time as a merchant in Malaga is mentioned.

      Deaths - In "The History of Surrey", Volume 2, Part 1,page 200 By Edward Wedlake Brayley (1842) ,found on the family memorial at Chertsey,Sussex ,John is recorded as dying 16th Feb 1799(aged 71 years),his youngest daughter Mary Jane on 12 Jul 1817(aged 21 years) ,and his widow Deborah on 22 Apr 1818(aged 61years)

      Ref:William Kirkpatrick of Malaga,by Colin Carlin In the National Archives in Washington USA a US Consular note says "William Kirkpatrick was born at Dumfries in Scotland on 1764-has had a liberal education and in 1782 went in a mercantile capacity to Ostende where he remained for three years from there to Barcelona where he resided nearly three more and then to Malaga where he remains-his patrons in London are James Reed and J. Parkinson and their patron is my old friend John Kirkpatrick Escott who with his deceased uncle Old Rob Kirkpatrick of London and another principleal London House are the principals of the Malaga House referred to in my letter to the President"
    • (Research):John adopted the Spanish style,adding his mothers maiden surname to his own,and continued to use it on return to England,to show his link to the Merchant House of Kirkatrick.
