  	For some unknown reason,James stated his father was deceased when registering the marriage.Perhaps there was a family falling out. James deserted his wife and young children some time after their youngest child was born. Mavis, Phyllis and Evelyn were raised by their grandmother Katherine McEwan while Alma went out to work. Ronald and Gladys had a very hard and miserable childhood. They were badly mistreated whilst in foster care. Ronald told his own children that the happiest time of his childhood was when he was sent to the Orphanage in Mittagong because at least he was fed there. When in foster care he was so hungry he would rummage through rubbish bins or be given scraps by the local firemen. He was also badly beaten. At some time, Henry Kellett changed his name to Elliott.His death certificate records Charlotte Woods was his second wife.No marriage certificate has been located at this time, and there was no formal divorce from Alma.
