Notes |
- James Marriage Certificate states he was a Merchant/Dealer at 19 Academy St. Belfast Records located to date indicate James left for Australia in January 1881 aboard the "John Elder ",as an unassisted passenger, and Catherine and their daughter Margaret(listed on the ships manifest as I for Infant) followed 12 months later , departing on the 14th January 1882 from London, also as unassisted passengers, aboard the "Lusitania". One must assume James travelled out first to secure employment and a residence - and once having gained employment on the Upper canal as a stonemason-wrote home advising Catherine to join him. James was the first Presbyterian Lay Preacher and Church Elder in the area and was instrumental in the building of the Presbyterian Church in Hoxton Park.
