- Vic BDM Reg-3376 James and Catherine married on 14th Dec 1854,but James filed for divorce in 1862, but a divorce was not granted - and he agreed to a legal separation . Catherine had deserted James and co-habited with Frederick Owen Jones from 1855 , eventually illegally marrying him on June 27th,1860. However the court forbade her second marriage. It was after the divorce proceedings in 1862 that James and Catherine apparently reconciled and started their family. A report of the divorce proceedings was located in The Argus (Melbourne, Vic. : 1848 - 1957), Friday 26 December 1862, page 6, 7.
The childrens names were taken from Catherines Death Certificate.Three children had predeceased her ,Elizabeth,Matilda and William.
