- On the 3rd of March 1945 ,Joseph was a Flying Officer/Bombardier in a Lancaster of the 467 Squadron ,RAAF, over Germany ,near the Rhine Airfield ,when an enemy aircraft disabled the plane with cannon fire, and Joseph was forced to Parachute to saftey.On landing he broke his left ankle,sprained his right and had sustained a back injury.He approached a local farmhouse for assistance ,but was handed over to the local police authorities.He was held for 5 days in the local civil jail, transferred to the Rhine Airfield Jail,then to Dulga Luft,and finally to Mooseberg VA.He was released on the 29th April,1945 ,by the British Army.
