- Nicholas was a Transported Convict -He arrived in Australia on the vessel Tyne, in January 1819 after being tried in Dublin City,as Nicholas Reid in January 1818 ,found guilty and sentenced to seven years transportation.His trade was Labourer / Blacksmith.He gained his Certificate of Freedom on 8th Dec. 1828.(Ref:NSW Archives.TL 398/618; in lieu of CF 95/3091),after losing his original C.O.F,granted on 20 Jan 1825(Ref:NSW Archives:TL 398/618; renewed CF 28/1040)
In 1828 ,he was an overseer ,employed by Joseph Brown ,at Cockfighters Creek, Warkworth, New South Wales.
On 26 May 1842, he was first granted a Publicans Licence for The Good Woman Inn,William Street, Bathurst .Ref:NSW Archives:NRS 14401 [4/74]; Reel 5057(notation also states Nicholas' surname was sometimes spelt Reade.
