Moree Gwydir Examiner and General Advertiser (NSW : 1901 - 1940) Monday 5 July 1926 p 2 Article"MR. J. G. WILLMOT.Mr. Joseph Gordon Willmot, an old and highly respected resident of Moree, passed away in Fairview Private Hospital this (Monday) morning, after an illness of about ten days. On the first day of the Moree Racing Club meeting held recently Mr. Willmot caught a chill which later developed into pneumonia. He entered the hospital on June 29. The late Mr. Willmot, who was 73 years of age, was born on the Hawkesbury and spent his yearly life in the Mudgee district. Leaving there when about 20 years of age, he came to Moree and took up a property on the Watercourse then known as 'Glenthorpe,' and which is now part of Curragundi. Owing to the drought of 1902, which was one of the most severe in the history of Moree, he left there and went to Coraki, on the Northern Rivers, and opened a dairy. Six years later he returned to Moree and took over Kelso Dairy from Mr.W. Murray, which business he controlled up to the time of his death. Mr. Willmot was keenly interested in horse racing, and had been a member of the committee ot the Moree Racing Club for many years, and frequently acted as starter. He had also assisted on many occasions in carrying out the Caledonian Society's sports, and, as a young man, had interested himself in the P. and A. Society's matters. His wife, who is 69 years of age, six sons, and five daughters, survive him,the former being John (Moree), James (Maitland), Gordon (Lismore), Alec., Henry and Arthur (Moree), and the latter Mrs. Moffett (Lismore), Miss S.(Moree), Mrs. W. Davis (Werribee,.Vic.), Mrs. J Woods (Moree), and Miss Connie (Sydney). The funeral took place this after- noon from All Saints' Church, the remains being interred in the Church of England portion of the cemetery, Rev.A. W. Coates officiated at the graveside. The mortuary arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Logan and Co."
