  After the Death of his Granduncle John Shaw ,3rd Baronet of Greenock,John inherited the Barony ,which comprised both Eastern and Western Greenock and Finnart. He himself had no issue and so the Baronetcy passed to Michael, the only son of his younger brother,Houston Nicolson-Stewart,of Carnock Ardgowan House was built between 1797 and 1801 for Sir John.
