- William was found guilty of bigamy,on 13th May 1807,in The Old Bailey,after it was proven he had married Maria ,whilst still married to a lady by the name of Rebecca Willmot,whom he had married at St. George's, Middlesex ,on 20th Oct. 1806 .
He was sentenced to seven years transportation,removed to the hulk Retribution at Woolwich,and later transported to the New South Wales Colonies on the Admiral Gambier and Eolus, departing on 27th May 1808 ,and arriving in the colony in 1809.
He later received a Free Pardon.-ref NSW Archives[4/4427; COD18, Reel 601 page 25].
On the 23rd Feb. 1826 William was appointed as a Police constable for Launceston, Hobart. (Ref:Hobart Town Gazette (Tas. : 1825 - 1827) Saturday 8 April 1826 p 1 Article ) , but shortly after ,on 14th July,1826 he was dismissed from the post(Ref:Hobart Town Gazette (Tas. : 1825 - 1827) Saturday 22 July 1826 p 1 Article )
