- James ,Caroline ,and children,(John aged nine,James W aged six and Ann aged four)left Shottermill, Surrey, England ,arrived in Australia on 17 Dec 1852 on the vessel Hydaspes,as assisted passengers.
Quite a few records use the spelling Lumsdon, and others Lumsden,and the ships passenger list of the Hydaspes is written as Lumsden ,but in James and Carolines marriage record the spelling is clearly Lumsdon.
Many of the family BDM records in the NSW registry have been transcribed twice, each using the differing spellings.
