When St. Columba's was irreparably destroyed during one of the fierce blitzes on London on 10th May 1941 , it was thought that other plans would have to be made for the wedding, but finally it was decided to have the ceremony among the ruins, with only the officiating clergyman, the bridal couple and the bride's grandparents present Then they went to the Church of England St Saviour's, where the bride met her bridesmaids, and all the guests were assembled, not knowing that the wedding proper had already been solemnised.Ref:Cairns Post (Qld. : 1909 - 1954),Wednesday 15 October 1941
