A pretty wedding took place at the residence of Mr. Pearson Coulter, by the Rev. Father Darcy, on St. Patrick's Day, when Mr. Michael O'Brien, junr., of Ulmarra, was married to Miss Jeanetta Walker Coulter, of Calliope. The bride, who was given away by her brother, was gowned in white silk richly trimmed with chiffon and lace ; she also wore a handsome necklet, which, with her shower bouquet, were the gifts of the bridegroom. She was attended by her sister, Miss L. Coulter, who was attired in a costume of cream taffeta, and wore a gold hand initialed ring, the gift of the bridegroom. Mr. P. O. Jones acted as best man. After the wedding breakfast, Mr. and Mrs. O'Brien left for Yamba, where they intend spending their honey- moon. The bride's travelling dress was brown cloth, trimmed with Paris lace, and hat to match. The presents were numerous and costly.	Family F8460

Deceased arrived from Britian about 26 years ago and subsequently became manager of Paxton and Co. He then entered into business as a commission agent and public accountant and took an active interest in public mattters. He was a lover of outdoor sport, being trustee of the local bowling club and an active member of the Mackay Turf Club. The funeral today was a large and representative one and included a great number of Masons from various lodges, who formed a proceession." 75	Simeon was the fourth child of Simeon Lord and Ann Fielden of Dobroyd, Yorkshire, England. His eldest brother John was born on 26 Apr 1765,sister Mary on 5 Aug 1766 and brother Joshua on 26 Sep 1768. Simeon was convicted at Manchester Quarter Sessions in April 1790 of theft and sentenced to transportation for seven years. He arrived in Sydney in 1791 and was soon assigned as servant to Captain Thomas Rowley of the 102nd Regiment, who was soon to assist Simeon in gaining his Ticket of Leave. He began his business empire by selling spirits and general merchandise bought in bulk by officers of the New South Wales Corps, and would later become a very wealthy and infliential member of the NSW citizenry. A wedding which will be of interest to many people in Brisbane took place at Yatton station on 11th instant The bride groom was Mr Herbert O'Reilly Fox of Lotus Creek station, a son of Mr George Fox MLA and the bride who is well known in this city was Miss Edith Brookes second daughter of the late (Mr Benjamin Brookes and a sister of Mrs Harry Barnes and of Mrs J C Hutton of Yatton station. The ceremony which took place in the drawing room was per formed by the Rev J Brocklehurst of St Barnabas Church North Rockhampton. The bride who was given away by her brother Mr Arthur Brookes (of Mackay) wore a pretty and becoming gown of cream canvas voile and a spray of orange blossom in her hair. The brides maids were her twin nieces, Misses Jean and Edith Hutton who wore "granny" frocks of soft white silk. After the ceremony the guests wore entertained by Mr and Mrs Hutton at a wedding breakfast and later in the day Mr and Mrs Fox drove to their home at Lotus Greek. Joseph Bancroft, a miner, committed suicide yesterday. It is supposed that he blew his head off with a dynamite cartridge. He was a married man with a large family, and when leaving home yesterday morning said good-bye to his wife, adding that she would not see him again. He was found half a mile from his house, his left hand blown off, the right arm shattered, and his head blown off from the shoulders. Pieces of his head were found 30ft. away. 81	The town of Bowen in Queensland was named after Sir George. Sir George Ferguson Bowen, unlike previous Australian military and naval governors, was trained in law, classics and administration. A noted intellectual and author, Bowen later became Fellow of Brasenose College in Oxford prior to a career as Queensland's first Governor. During 1847 and 1851, Bowen worked as the political secretary to the government of the Ionian Islands where he married Countess Diamantina Roma, daughter of Count Candiano di Roma, President of the Senate. A strong supporter of Liberal Prime Minister, William Gladstone, Bowen was appointed Governor of the newly separated colony of Queensland, arriving on 10 December 1859. Since Queensland did not have a substantive government at the time, Bowen ruled with Colonial Secretary, R. G. W. Herbert who later became Queensland's first Premier in 1860. In March 1873 Bowen was transferred to Victoria (Australia) as Governor of Victoria,and later arrived in Mauritius ( 4 April 1879) to serve as 13th Governor of the colony until 9 December 1880. 98	"Kirkella" was built in 1868 for Mr Duncan McKellar and probably designed by Mr Alfred Scurry, this large single storey brick homestead with cellars has a verandah on three sides with elegant close coupled columns with a very simple and attractive timber valance. There are two unusual wrought iron ridge finials with a botanical motif which are noteworthy. Various additions and alterations were done in 1880, 1900 and 1926. To the rear there are still servants' quarters, black smith's shop, stables and equipment sheds in good condition and internally there are numerous examples of the original fire places, ornamental plasterwork, furniture and fittings.Ref:The Victorian Heritage Database.
