Moree Gwydir Examiner and General Advertiser (NSW : 1901 - 1940) Monday 5 July 1926 p 2 Article"MR. J. G. WILLMOT.Mr. Joseph Gordon Willmot, an old and highly respected resident of Moree, passed away in Fairview Private Hospital this (Monday) morning, after an illness of about ten days. On the first day of the Moree Racing Club meeting held recently Mr. Willmot caught a chill which later developed into pneumonia. He entered the hospital on June 29. The late Mr. Willmot, who was 73 years of age, was born on the Hawkesbury and spent his yearly life in the Mudgee district. Leaving there when about 20 years of age, he came to Moree and took up a property on the Watercourse then known as 'Glenthorpe,' and which is now part of Curragundi. Owing to the drought of 1902, which was one of the most severe in the history of Moree, he left there and went to Coraki, on the Northern Rivers, and opened a dairy. Six years later he returned to Moree and took over Kelso Dairy from Mr.W. Murray, which business he controlled up to the time of his death. Mr. Willmot was keenly interested in horse racing, and had been a member of the committee ot the Moree Racing Club for many years, and frequently acted as starter. He had also assisted on many occasions in carrying out the Caledonian Society's sports, and, as a young man, had interested himself in the P. and A. Society's matters. His wife, who is 69 years of age, six sons, and five daughters, survive him,the former being John (Moree), James (Maitland), Gordon (Lismore), Alec., Henry and Arthur (Moree), and the latter Mrs. Moffett (Lismore), Miss S.(Moree), Mrs. W. Davis (Werribee,.Vic.), Mrs. J Woods (Moree), and Miss Connie (Sydney). The funeral took place this after- noon from All Saints' Church, the remains being interred in the Church of England portion of the cemetery, Rev.A. W. Coates officiated at the graveside. Notes:

(Research):Ref:Heritage Division of the Office of Environment and Heritage.
The Black Horse Inn. Built in 1837 by John Smith on one of the eleven early 1818 grants' from Governor Lachlan Macquarie at Wallis Creek, Englefield is a rare example of a pattern book, colonial, double pile Georgian house built in the style of an Irish farmhouse (jerkin head roof), retaining many original features (including its c.1826 kitchen with working fireplace and wood-fired bread oven). It forms part of an important group of early colonial/Georgian houses clustered together on the road between Newcastle and Maitland in East Maitland. All of these houses are listed on the Register of the National Estate and can be seen from Englefield. In c.1843 it underwent extensions and alterations at the rear (visible on the un-rendered southeast side of the northwest wing) to convert it to the Black Horse Inn, which achieved notoriety for the Black Horse Inn Races, and is significant in the social and economic history of Inn development along the Newcastle - Maitland road,

Alterations- Alterations and additions, all in an early style and using early sandstock bricks and mortar, consistent with its adaptation as an inn , therefore probably done in 1843 when Henry Adams, innkeeper, bought the property and transferred his licence for the Black Horse Inn to the property.
